Link Aero
Trading Agency Team is proud to announce their second winning of the Ramp Safety Award
for the Middle East & Africa Regions
The award was
received during the 13th annual Ground Handling International Conference,
November 2011, held at Sitges, Barcelona.
The annual award program recognizes the best example of ramp
practice worldwide. Link Aero Trading Agency won the second award as a
result of their safety awareness for an incident that took place at Luxor
Airport.
The
incident occurred while six SU-30 MKI, an IL-76
Transporter and an IL-78 Fuel Tanker were transiting at Luxor airport.
They were being readied for departure to attend the International Air Force
Show and were due to leave with 160 Air Force personnel on board.
According
to the aircraft schedules, they had to get fully fuelled to ensure
reaching their destination and thus avoid another fuel stop. However,
because of bad weather that day, the aircraft had to park overnight at
Luxor.
After
the passengers have disembarked, also technicians have performed their
checks, the tankers and aircraft were refueled so as to be ready for
take-off the following morning.
Having
noticed the rise of temperature at Luxor that day and knowing the effect
of high temperature and humidity on fuel, Link ramp agent decided to
check on the tankers, anticipating a potential hazard. That was when he
noticed a leakage of fuel from the edge of the port wing of an IL-78
tanker. Link agent immediately informed the tower and called for the fire
brigade on the spot; he then informed the Station manager to contact the
Air Force technicians.
Within
20 minutes ramp area was isolated and the fire brigade sprayed foam over
surrounding areas of the ramp, since the leakage was becoming copious and
uncontrollable because of the slope at the parking stand.
Air
Force technicians duly arrived and discovered that the heat had affected
the fuel volume and density, causing the fuel to start to overflow &
this could have ended with a huge
disaster, but thanks god the situation was in good hands.
Mr.
Amr Samir, Link Aero
Trading Agency Chairman congratulated the team for such achievements,
highlighting the operational safety department’s contribution as well as
our team of instructors performing up to date training to all our teams
at all airports.
